TEHRAN (IQNA) – An Egyptian Qari said using social media can play a major role in promoting Quran recitation.

Speaking to al-Hadath al-Youm news network, Sheikh Samih Mahdi beautiful voices can be identified and trained with the use of social media, al-Misry al-Youm website reported.

He added that those willing to learn the Quran can find many good recitations on social media and pick the best ones to follow.

Mahdi also referred to his Quranic activities and said he learned the Quran by heart at an early age.

He said he later began learning Tajweed principles and Quran recitation and soon recitations began attracting praise in Egypt and other countries when shared via the cyberspace.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Mahdi said recitation of the Quran elevates the spiritual status of Qaris, stressing the need for Quran reciters to become acquainted with the teachings and concepts of the Quran as well.

Egypt is a country in North Africa with a population of around 100 million.

Muslims account for around 90 percent of the country’s total population.

Quranic activities are very common in the Muslim-majority Arab country and many of the Muslim world’s top Qaris in the past and present have been Egyptian.
